A cat's eyes shine at night due to a reflective layer called the tapetum lucidium. It contains tiny crystal-like reflective properties, which enable a cat to see at night with only minimal amounts of light. When light hits a cat’s eye, it bounces back and makes it look as though its eyes are glowing.
